POWERPAC™ – Transformer Testing System (Partial Discharge, Mechanical, High Temperature Faults)

A technology package, with in-service, on-line monitoring applications, that applies key AE testing principles to power transformers. PowerPAC™ detects, locates and assess not only particle discharge in power transformers, but also thermal faults by utilizing AE technology. Once transformers are instrumented with AE a sensor covering the tank and other necessary components, data is collected over a 24-hour period. Results are presented to show location and type of faults, as well as a grading system used for each fault and provides an overall evaluation of the transformer for maintenance and operational planning moving forward. PowerPAC™ was developed under an EPRI (Electric Power Research Institute) sponsored collaboration.
